Boris Nazarov — noisemaker, musical producer, mixing and mastering engineer — was born in Moscow, Russia in 1975. He received his first Bachelor’s degree in International Relations at Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1997 and became a professional diplomat. The same year, after only two months of work as a diplomat, he decided to quit at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and start a professional music career. During the next few years, he went from being an underground producer of electronic music to the head of Citadel Records, a respected Moscow label. Citadel presented post-Soviet electronic music to a wide international market; it participated in major industry events such as Midem in France and Popkomm in Berlin. More than 100 CDs were released ranging from dance and experimental electronic to the contemporary music. Nazarov formed an electronic experimental/dance duo, Moscow Grooves Institute, with keyboardist Arkady Marto. During the next 12 years, the duet released 7 LP’s, many tracks were released internationally on the compilation. One of the successful compilations containing duo’s track “Les Chrysanthemes” - “Hotel Costes, 3-eme stage” was sold more than half a million copies worldwide. More than one thousand live shows in Russia, Europe, and Asia were performed during these years. They reached the final of the contest for the Best East European Electronic Band organized by the Radio France International. They opened live acts of such bands like David Gahan (Depeche Mode) and Massive Attack. As a solo composer, he wrote music for TV series, theater plays and TV commercials for such brands as Wrigley and Head and Shoulders. As arranger, remixer, and producer, he worked with renowned Russian rock and pop artists including Tatu, Mummy Troll, and Zemfira. As a mastering engineer, he mastered CDs for Citadel records and others such as Universal Music. As a sound engineer he worked in the biggest studios from Air studios and Real-world studio in the U.K to in Yashraj Studios (Bollywood) in India and participated in musical projects, including Russia's first stadium concert in Live Surround format and live sound mixing at the biggest European electronic music “Boom” festival with the 25000 audiences in Portugal. And finally, as an electronic musician, he joined live ethnic project Goatika and performed live together with prominent musicians such as violinist Artem Yakushenko (Two Siberians), percussionist Pete Lockett (Bjork) and bass player Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel). During his residence in London, Boris accomplished Bachelor of Arts in Audio Production at the SAE London in 2014. While working on a music project, he was lucky to learn from the legendary London based record producer, engineer, and mixer Haydn Bendall a former chief-engineer of Abbey Roads. Lately, his interest spread to the electro-acoustic composition. With his music, he performed a couple of times at the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival. He writes music and does the sound design for the documentary films. Currently, Boris Nazarov lives in NYC and pursuing Music Technology Masters degree at the NYU Steinhardt. He runs his private mixing studio on Long Island with a various top-grade modern and vintage audio equipment and does free-lance composing, recording, mixing and mastering activities.
